Skyview Drive-In in Litchfield gets a bright, new sign on its screen

The historic Skyview Drive-In theater in Litchfield, Illinois, recently received a new, bright sign installed on the back of its big screen.

The venerable Ace Sign Co. of nearby Springfield, Illinois, did the work. Ace has its own neon sign museum that’s worth checking out, by the way.

The Skyview in March received a $25,000 grant from the Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau to create a 20-by-60-foot mural.

Cory Jobe posted a few image of the new sign and its installation:

The venue itself provided more information about the project:

In a response to a question on Facebook, the Skyview said doesn’t yet light up at night, “but we are working on it.”

The Skyview was opened in 1950 by Frisina Enterprises, but much of its history is owed to Norman and Del Paul, who owned it for more than 30 years.

It is the last remaining original Route 66 drive-in in Illinois, and it was inducted into the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame.
