Buck Atom now has a steady girlfriend.
On Friday, a 19-foot-tall fiberglass giant named Stella Atom joined the namesake of Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios on Route 66 shop in Tulsa.
Here she is:
Despite a heat index of nearly 100 degrees, dozens of people showed up at the shop on Friday morning to see Stella Atom arrive on a flatbed trailer.
Mary Beth Babcock, the owner of the Buck Atom’s shop, livestreamed Stella’s arrival and installation on a concrete pedestal (the raising occurs around the 1-hour, 6-minute mark).
The dedication of Stella happened Friday evening, which also was livestreamed:
A day before Stella arrived, Babcock passed along this personal note about the giant’s inspiration:
News on 6 in Tulsa filed a report about Stella.
As they raised Stella Atom to her final destination, Babcock wanted her to stand as an inspiration for others to follow their dreams.
“Hopefully, she can be an example to show people like you can do whatever you want if you dream big,” she said.
Tulsa People magazine had a conversation with Babcock about her energy and inspirations.
Babcock has commissioned a third Muffler Man that will be installed later this summer at the Meadow Gold Mack Route 66 Outpost just down the street.
The original 21-foot-tall Buck Atom statue, also custom-made by Enchanted Castle Studios, was dedicated at the shop in 2019 with much fanfare. It was the first new Muffler Man in decades.
Babcock also commissioned several neon signs that stand in front of Buck Atom’s.
