Granite City, Illinois, will host a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and lighting ceremony for its new Route 66 neon sign park on the evening of Aug. 1.
The event also will include food trucks, classic cars, music and more.

It will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at 19th Street and Delmar Avenue in Granite City. It’s a few blocks west of the Madison Avenue alignment of Route 66 through town.
The Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau earlier this year announced it was doling out about $800,000 in state Route 66 grant funding, including for the neon sign park in Granite City.
According to earlier reporting, a new experience called “It’s Electric on Route 66” would include replicas of Route 66 neon signs, a music bandstand and EV charging stations. The project will be paid for with $425,000 in grant funds.
