Hank’s Hamburgers, one of the oldest and greatest hamburger joints among many terrific ones in Tulsa, is marking its 75th anniversary this weekend.
Through 7 p.m. Saturday, Hank’s is offering its old-fashioned Oklahoma-style burger or a combo for 75 cents off to celebrate the milestone, reported the Tulsa World.
Hank’s sits at 8933 E. Admiral Place, which is part of the original alignment of Route 66 in Tulsa.
Hank’s Hamburgers is famous for Oklahoma-style burgers with fried onions within the meat patty.
It also offers a Big Okie, which is four burger patties with all the fixings, and the Okie Dokie, which is six patties. The latter will set you back almost 20 bucks, but you won’t have to eat again for a week.
Country-music star Waylon Jennings ate at Hank’s once. Waylon’s bus driver was a Tulsa native and recommended the restaurant to his boss.
According to The Oklahoman newspaper, Hank and Ruby Henry opened Hank’s Hamburgers in Tulsa at 11th Street (also a Route 66 alignment) and Frisco in 1949. It moved in 1955 to its present location.
