Pizza Shack in Arcadia launching a Storytelling Series

The Pizza Shack in Arcadia, Oklahoma, will host its inaugural Storytelling Series: Session One from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 10 at the restaurant’s stage at 210 E. Highway 66.

The restaurant is part of the former Hillbillee’s complex that once operated there.

According to the Oklahoma Route 66 Association:

This first session will feature eight storytellers with compelling real-life stories of travel, Route 66, and journeys of the road. Arcadia’s square mile of the Mother Road sees scores of travelers, tourists, and road warriors daily from across the nation and the world.

This new storytelling series is designed to present a day to hear Oklahomans tell their stories of travels on the Mother Road and around the globe. Each story will be from seven to 10 minutes from a variety of storytellers, including:

  • Nick Water, in-character storyteller from the Territory Tellers
  • Kliff Davis, radio talk show host and personality
  • Madi Franklin, Viticulture & Enology Coordinator at Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry
  • Ace Greenwood (Chickasaw), Cultural Ambassador at the First Americans Museum
  • Derrick Ott, art lover, a teller of tales and cultivator of creativity
  • Shelley Zumwalt, retired executive director of the Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation Department
  • Special guest storyteller to be announced
  • Pastor Allen Threatt and Edward Threatt, Threatt Filling Station on Route 66

Presentation of the event and introductions will be by Bob Protexter, who writes stories, travels the world through baseball and is head pizzaiolo and chief pizza officer at the Pizza Shack.

The hostess for the event will be Yeliz Turkdil, University of Oklahoma nursing student, Miss Norman and finalist of the Miss Oklahoma USA pageant.

This event will be recorded by Dennis Spielman, a film producer, director and cinematographer. He is the author of the 16th Phoenix Universe Stories.
