Oklahoma Route 66 Association offering a centennial ornament for the holidays

The Oklahoma Route 66 Association recently announced it is offering a Route 66 centennial ornament for the Christmas holiday.

You can find it here. It’s 3 inches in diameter and is made of acrylic. Here’s an image below:

Perusing the websites of the eight other Route 66 associations, I could not find a Christmas ornament for sale on any of them, much less one that marks the highway’s forthcoming 100th anniversary in 2026.

Perhaps the associations have previously offered ornaments but aren’t now or are not listed online.

To my surprise, I found quite a few Route 66-themed Christmas ornaments on Amazon and eBay.

I’m old enough to remember when Route 66 souvenirs in general were few and far between.

In fact, longtime Texas Route 66 advocate Delbert Trew remarked at his Mother Road Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony years ago that in the early 1990s, he and his cohorts had “had to make our own souvenirs.”

Nowadays, the Mother Road is lousy with all kinds of Route 66 trinkets — a good thing for all the mom-and-pop restaurants, museums and shops that line the highway.
