New Oklahoma Route 66 centennial monument unveiled in Oklahoma City

A new Oklahoma Route 66 centennial monument was installed last week in Oklahoma City along Northwest 23rd Street, a prominent alignment of Route 66 in the city.

Mayor David Holt stated in several posts on social media that the sign is one of several that will be installed in the city.

The new sign is in the Uptown District at Northwest 23rd and North Hudson Avenue.

Holt and Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, who leads the state’s tourism department, attended the unveiling.

According to Hoodline.com, the monument, designed by VOX Industries and Oklahoma sculptor Stan Carroll – known for his work on the iconic Sky Dance Bridge – aims to not only honor Route 66’s 100th year in 2026 but to stimulate the local economy.

Five other centennial monuments have been installed across the state.
