The RoadRunner Gift Shop, Cafe & Pub in Seligman, Arizona, has been put up for sale for $485,000, according to its longtime owner.
Rick Bell, who has owned the Route 66 establishment for 16 years, wants to retire, adding he’s had one day off during that time.
“We never close, which is why we want to retire,” he said in a phone interview.
The asking price includes the furnishings, inventory and equipment. Bell says it’s a “turnkey” operation.
The RoadRunner will remain open while the search for a new caretaker continues.
Bell said the RoadRunner is housed in a circa 1936 building that once was Olsen’s Chevrolet dealership.
Those interested in the property at 22330 W. Old Highway 66 should email Bell at route66roadrunner@gmail.com.
Seligman’s small population of about 700 belies its importance in Route 66 lore. It’s long called itself the “Birthplace of Historic Route 66” due to residents — Angel Delgadillo among them — banding together to try to save the town after it was bypassed by Interstate 40.
Seligman now is a must-stop for any serious Route 66 traveler.
