Several new neon signs go up along Route 66 in Oklahoma

If you’re thinking Oklahoma’s Route 66 has been seeing a lot of activity along the neon sign front, you’re not wrong.

Just in the past four weeks or so, at least a half-dozen new neon signs have gone up along the Mother Road in the Sooner State.

First, the Goodwill Industries of Tulsa recently fired up this beauty:

Also in Tulsa, the 66 Collective saw the erection of this sign:

In Yukon, Grady’s Route 66 Pub put up this new neon sign. (Owner Grady Cross recently reunited with his Cross Canadian Ragweed bandmates for four sold-out shows at Oklahoma State University’s football stadium.)

Finally, feast your eyes on this sign for the Oklahoma Route 66 Association’s headquarters at 11th Street (aka Route 66) and Birmingham Place.

That doesn’t count the new neon sign in Luther, the Western Motel near Vinita, and a whole bunch of neon signs coming down the pipeline in Stroud.

At least part of the cost of these signs is being covered by Tulsa’s Route 66 Neon Sign Grant Program or other grants from the Oklahoma Route 66 Association or the Oklahoma Route 66 Commission.

The Sooner State is motivated to be gussied up when Route 66’s centennial begins in 2026.
