The historic Tewa Lodge motel along Route 66 in Albuquerque has been put up for sale for $1.288 million.
The property at 5715 Central Ave. (aka Route 66) is listed by EXP Realty.
“Tewa Lodge is one of the oldest continuously operating motels on Route 66,” the description states. “This historic property is the perfect acquisition for the 2026 100th Anniversary of Route 66! Priced well for the real estate value.”
It states that seller financing is available.
Albuquerque Business First, which reported last week on the motel being on the market, reported that the Tewa Lodge has been family-owned for 46 years.
The Tewa being put up for sale is not a surprise.
The City of Albuquerque in November closed the crime-ridden motel, and the 81-year-old owner said at the time he would consider a buyout offer.
Fortunately for anyone considering buying it, crime has dropped in that area of the city since the local district attorney and other law enforcement officials implemented Operation Route 66 a few weeks ago.
According to Route 66 Times, the Tewa Lodge opened in 1946 with 24 units. Rooms still ran for just $6 a night in 1959.
The Tewa Lodge was added to the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties and the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
