Golden Tee Golf, maker of video golf games commonly found in taverns and arcades, soon will release a new game called Golden Tee 2012 that features the Dusty Bend golf course built along Route 66.
Here’s a sneak preview released today:
I spotted replicas of the Wigwam Motel, a Bunyon Muffler Man, and a huge Sinclair Oil dinosaur.
Here’s a description of the game from Golden Tee Golf:
Built along Route 66, Dusty Bend Golf Course seems like a step back in time. You’ll never know what roadside attractions you’ll encounter as you golf along “the mother road” in Sayre, Oklahoma. Trees are scarce, but the farm buildings and tourist traps replace them with a landscape as well as some unexpected landmark new to the game. Venture off the fairway too far and the dusty dirt will make its presence known. It goes without saying that you’ve never played a course like this.
Golden Tee Golf says the game should start arriving in bars and arcades in “early fall.”
I know this particular post is a few years old, but I didn’t really know any other relevant articles to reply to.
I was wondering if you had a particular method of looking up games featuring Route 66. I’m on a bit of a kick with collecting them. I’ve grabbed a few games, but it’s proving to be a really difficult process. Outside of a couple games that feature 66 in the title, and the obvious Car games, there doesn’t seem to be a compehensive list. I’ve discovered some really interesting stuff along the way. Like how one popular racing series originally started off as a pure Route 66 experience, or weird parodies of the Route in some modern games that I just stumbled upon. I’d be glad to share anything I have if you feel it’d make for good articles.
Just wondering what your thoughts were on the subject, I’d love to get your input. I may end up compiling a project for a podcast or Youtube, and would of course point people to the website as a good source of information (Which I planned on doing anyway, since this is the only site that even came close to helping me find something.)
Also wanted to say great job with the website. I only just discovered it the other day, but I’ve been having a blast going through and learning a lot about the Route. Please keep up the good work, and I’ll be sure to keep reading.
