Robby Love, aka the Roller Rapper, rolled into Springfield, Ill., on Sunday during his Route 66 tour, according to the Springfield Journal-Register.
Love is skating from Chicago to L.A. to help plug his “Roller Rapper” album, shoot a documentary, and raise money for St. Jude Children’s Cancer Center and local charities as he makes his way down the road.
He’s doing the tour on Route 66 to help mark the 80th anniversary of the road; he’s been in contact with Route 66ers for information about the Mother Road for months. To his credit, Love has created a separate page for Route 66.
Someone named funkman is keeping a diary during the tour. I’m not 100 percent positive, but I’m pretty sure it’s Love himself. It sounds like the tour encountered some logistical problems and some crew members who bailed out. But give him credit; Love’s staying upbeat and keeping the tour going.
Here’s his tour schedule. There are some gaps in the itinerary, but I’ve included the dates where Love’s actually making an appearance:
- July 14 — 7 p.m., at Lowe’s Skating Center, Pittsburg, Kan., (620) 231-5688
- July 15 — 7 p.m., Sand Springs Skate Center, Sand Springs, Okla. (918) 902-6386. There also will be a tour stop at Children’s Hospital of St. Francis in Tulsa.
- July 18 — 7 p.m., Southwestern Skate Center, Oklahoma City, (405) 632-5484. There also will be a tour stop at Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center.
- July 19 — No skate event in Amarillo, but a tour stop at Children’s Hospital at Northwest Texas Healthcare System.
- July 20 — 7 p.m. at Rollerking, Albuquerque, (505) 363-3860. Also a tour stop at Children’s Center at Presbyterian Hospital.
- July 24 — Flagstaff, Ariz., tour stop to be announced.
- July 29 — 7 p.m., Moonlight Rollerway, Los Angeles (818) 241-3630.
