Route 66 like you’ve never seen before

I don’t know much about the person posting these videos. His (or her) Vimeo account is known only as “martial.”

I think he’s from France, judging by the language in one of the video descriptions. But he hasn’t yet replied to my messages to him.

But he uses a high-definition video camera that’s attached to a remarkable miniature helicopter, for lack of a better description. And it produces amazing footage such as this:

And he also used this contraption at Roy’s in Amboy, Calif. (Never mind the distracting cheesecake in the footage.)

I’m hoping he posts other clips from the Mother Road. I’d like to see other previously unseen angles from some of Route 66’s landmarks.

  1. Great shots,
I was thinking it would be a great idea from a real helicopter. In spite of my fear of heights I have taken a couple of local photo flights when the light bulb in my head went off about doing the same on Route 66.

  2. Loved the first video and loved the footage of Roy’s in the second video. The helicopter footage really gives a nice, fresh perspective of our beloved Mother Road. I just don’t care to associate Route 66 with ladies wearing next to nothing (though others may, I guess). That just cheapened the second video for me.

  3. Hi,

I’m Martial 🙂 and I’m from France as you guessed !
Thanks a lot for having posted the videos here. In few days I will render the first video in High Definition. And there will be a few more shots in one (or two ?) more videos of our trip across the States. (I was travelling with my brother).

Carol, I can understand your feeling. In fact, we were on the road filming some train when we landed in Roy’s cafe and the people there were really VERY welcoming offering some drinks. It was the end of August and trust me, we were thirsty in less than 2 minutes out of the car… 🙂 We just asked if we could shoot the cars and then all the girls arrived for a photo shooting session… We just try to experiment with the helicopter. That’s all. Not easy to pilot with these cute girls. (Yes I’m a man ! haha) And the video is there as a “thanks guys” we had lot of fun to Roy’s Cafe people 😛

Great web-site by the way ! Very interessting…
