Growth along the Mother Road

Many stretches of Route 66 are semi-deserted. Kingman, Ariz., is not one of them. Route 66 in that western Arizona city averages about 19,000 vehicles a day at one point.

And a new study indicates that by 2023, traffic along the Mother Road in Kingman will jump to 38,000 vehicles a day, says the Kingman Daily Miner.

The population of the town also will more than double, from about 35,000 now to 77,000.

The study predicts Route 66, state route 66, Airway Avenue and U.S. 93 and Stockton Hill Road will absorb the most congestion, with the largest increase expected to be on Airway Avenue.
