Pain Connection walker update

Dennis Kinch, who is walking the length of Route 66 to raise awareness for the National Pain Foundation, has posted his first update on the Web site in a couple weeks (he has limited access to the Internet on the road). He’s made it to Lebanon, Mo., and he’s walked 460 miles.

He’s experienced rough moments since St. Louis — cold weather, steep hills in the Ozarks and severe thunderstoms (including one storm system that later killed dozens in Indiana). But he’s also experienced this:

I then took off for Cuba, Missouri. Cuba is a really cool, cute, quaint town with lots of old Route 66 stuff. There are murals everywhere. I found a typical Route 66 café where you walk in and 10 minutes later you feel like you know everyone. While I was there, Sally and Bill Lemons came up to me and Bill said, “You got a bunch of Route 66 stuff on your vest there, kid.
