A mixed-use development in Santa Fe, N.M., will reuse two historic Route 66 buildings in the downtown area, with an estimated completion date of September, according to a news release Thursday.
Below is an artist’s rendering of the project:
The project, called Luna, will start renovations this month. The release said:
The initial phase will renovate or “recycle” two existing buildings on the property that were formerly a 1930s movie theatre, a DeSoto car dealership and, more recently, a stationery store and night spot Club Luna back in the 1990s. The development plan calls for 60,000 plus square feet of restaurant, retail, office and loft spaces. […]
Luna, located at the gateway to downtown Santa Fe just north of the intersection of city traffic arteries Paseo De Peralta and Cerrillos at 519 and 519 Cerrillos Rd., has commitments for a gourmet international market, a coffee shop, a bike rental shop and other businesses.
Luna is a joint effort between Ken Joseph, a longtime office space building developer in Santa Fe, his wife Deena, and Don Wiviott, builder and developer of The Lofts in Santa Fe.
That’s the fourth high-profile project along New Mexico’s Route 66 where historic buildings are being repurposed. The Luna Lodge in Albuquerque is being reused as housing. Ditto for the Sundowner Motel in Albuquerque. And the Stage Coach Motor Inn in Santa Fe is being reused, also.
