Tornado-stricken antiques business in Williamsville will reopen

Williamsville Route 66 Antiques in Williamsville, Ill., will reopen the original building was destroyed by a tornado more than two years ago, reported the Springfield State Journal-Register.

Dan and Linda Spann, and partner David Ruiz, say the shop will have much the same look and mix of antiques. The owners rebuilt after the storm but used the building for storage, rather than as an antique mall, said Linda Spann.

“They built it back exactly like it was,” said Spann, who added that she and her husband have been involved in antiques for more than 20 years.

The Spanns decided to drop the “mall” from the business name. It will contain space for 30 booths and 20 show cases.

Williamsville Route 66 Antiques Mall, located off historic Route 66 on the city’s west side, was destroyed by a tornado in August 2009. The tornado also destroyed dozens of homes in Williamsville and Elkhart. Somehow, there were no fatalities.

The Spanns said the business will open by May 1.
