Simon Cantlon, who we previously reported was creating a documentary film and book called “The Motels of Route 66,” has just launched a fundraiser on Kickstarter to cover the some of the expenses of the project.
The money raised will cover a month-long journey down Route 66 with a full four-man film crew (director, cameraman, photographer, lighting / sound). Costs include vehicle rental, equipment, gas, food, lodging and supplies. Your contribution can make it all happen.
Here’s a video that explains it:
Cantlon wants to raise $30,000 by June 9. A scouting trip is planned next month, with actual shooting in July.
Route 66 motels recently were named one of the most endangered historic sites in America by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. So Cantlon’s book and film undoubtedly will contain historic value.
I love that there will be detailed information about a dozen hotels in 8 states. It doesn’t sound like much, but 12 hotels over 2400 miles is one over 200 miles, about one per CURRENT day’s travel. Not bad. A good number that hopefully gets spread evenly. I hope that his goal to document “every historic motel on 66” can come true and I wish him the best of luck in his endeavor. Looking forward to see the final project.
