Waylan’s Ku-Ku Burger, a mainstay restaurant on Route 66 in Miami, Okla., will appear on the Travel Channel’s “Food Paradise” show this fall, reported KODE / KSN-TV in nearby Joplin, Mo.
Crews filmed the restaurant this weekend. Waylan’s KU KU Burger has been around for nearly 50 years. Owners say they see customers from all over the world on a daily basis.
“I had a couple yesterday from Portugal, earlier in the day we had a couple from Australia, so we’re getting them world wide,” states Eugene Waylan, Owner of Waylan’s KU KU Burger.
“We are a big icon on Route 66. I don’t know if that was part of it, but it was a great honor,” states Gayle Waylan, Manager.
The Miami News-Record also produced this video about the Travel Channel shoot:
The Ku-Ku also is the last survivor of a chain that once counted about 200 restaurants. Most Route 66ers disdain chain restaurants. But when an eatery is the last of its breed, the rancor falls away.
It also helps that the Ku-Ku has been a big supporter of Route 66, and hosts car cruises throughout the summer.
The segment featuring the Ku-Ku will air sometime in October.
