A slightly different take by the Stones

Here’s a version of Bobby Troup’s “Route 66” by the Rolling Stones that I haven’t heard before. It’s similar to the one you’ve heard all these years, but you’ll find subtle differences, especially in the guitar solo.

The YouTube account, Rolling50Stones, that uploaded the video says it’s from the band’s debut album, “The Rolling Stones.” The album is listed as LK 4605, issued by Decca Records on April 17, 1964.

Once you start delving into information about that record, you find a dozen or more variations exist of the LK 4605 LP. So this version of “Route 66” must be an alternate recording take.

UPDATE: According to Spin magazine, the Stones are including “Route 66” in their set list for upcoming shows in New Jersey and London.
