Fordham University in New York is hosting a two-person photography exhibition, “In the City and the Mother Road: Route 66,” by Doug Muir and Michael Putnam through Feb. 10. The exhibit juxtaposes urban settings with rural scenes from middle America.
The Route 66 photography is by Putnam. According to a news release by the university:
Putnam’s work features a black-and-white photo essay of a road trip across Route 66 during the mid-1970s. He has traveled extensively in the U.S., documenting everyday life in small towns and rural areas. Both photographers draw their inspiration from photographers such as Walker Evans and Henri Cartier-Bresson, Lawson said.
Putnam has published at least one photography book, “Silent Screens: The Decline and Transformation of the American Movie Theater,” that includes an image of The Lux in Grants, N.M. More about Putnam can be read here.
The exhibit is housed in Center Gallery, Lowenstein Center, on the Lincoln Center campus.
