If you missed the telecast of the Tournament of Roses Parade yesterday from Pasadena, Calif., here’s a video of Disney’s 125-foot-long float, titled “Destination: Cars Land,” shot an hour before the event.
The Disney Parks Blog posted this account from the parade:
The float got off to a good start as it stepped off onto Orange Grove Blvd., but then …
… it broke down! In a flash of sparks and smoke, it looked like the fun would be over. But Mater, who you can see following close behind in the photo above, was there to save the day! With a quick jump-start, Radiator Springs’ favorite tow truck had the float running good as new and on its way down the parade route!
It pays to have a tow truck around during a road trip. 😉
A spectator posted a video of the float in action. Distributing checkered flags to the throng was a nice touch …
By the way, a good part of the parade route goes along Colorado Boulevard, which is Route 66 in Pasadena.
It was Disney’s first float in the parade after a six-year hiatus. Cars Land, as part of the Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, was inspired by the fictional Route 66 town of Radiator Springs, as depicted in the 2006 Disney-Pixar animated film “Cars.”
UPDATE: Here’s the official video from Disney about the float’s debut:

Great parade and weather they had yesterday.
Disney did not disappoint with that float. That was easily a seven figure float. Not sure on the Pop version of “Route 66” though.
The float was beautiful. However, I didn’t see a Route 66 shield on it anywhere.
