Lots of things going on in Lincoln

A story today in the Lincoln (Ill.) Courier has a bunch of information about Route 66-related events coming up in Logan County. You can click the link for the story, but I’ll try my best to summarize the big points here:

  • The Route 66 “garage sale” on June 9-10, which will go from Atlanta, Ill., to Elkhart along the Mother Road, will include a food sale by the Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County to help raise money for the restoration of The Mill in Lincoln.
  • Another fund-raiser for The Mill will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 25 at Hallie’s Restaurant at 111 S. Kickapoo St. in Lincoln. It will serve full-blown meals for up to $8.95 apiece, and will include decor from The Mill.
  • The Illinois Route 66 Association‘s annual motor tour, which takes place the same weekend of the garage sale, will be named the Ernie Edwards 2007 Motor Tour to honor Edwards and his wife. Edwards was the longtime owner of the Pig Hip restaurant in Broadwell. The eatery is now a museum. The tour will also celebrate Edwards’ 90th birthday and Broadwell’s sesquicentennial.
