It doesn’t sound like much, adding an elevator to the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum in Pontiac.
But, as the Bloomington Pantagraph recounts, it’s fairly important. The building in which the Hall of Fame is housed needs to be brought up to code for handicap-accessibility.
Also, the museum has not expanded onto the second floor because of that lack of elevators. A larger, more accessible museum likely would draw more tourists.
An elevator would do a lot to address both needs. And it sounds like the City of Pontiac is willing to spend the $175,000 required to install the two elevators in the Route 66 museum, Livingston County War Museum and Education Center and the Old City Hall Shoppes.
