Barely a year after Allen and Susan Shamburg moved from Colorado, bought a historic cafe in Sapulpa, Okla., and renovated it, word comes that they are reluctantly putting it on the market.
The main reason Al’s Route 66 Cafe is for sale is that Allen is encountering serious health problems that are keeping him from working. Susan is having to run the restaurant and raise their 10 kids pretty much by herself. The restaurant, Susan says, has seen steadily growing revenues, but not enough to cope with both the unexpected health crisis and their bills after the renovations.

It’s a clean, retro-looking diner. The tile on the walls, showing a Route 66 shield and a map of the Mother Road, is new. Renovations exposed a long-concealed tin ceiling that probably dates to the cafe’s construction in 1927. The restaurant doesn’t look big from the outside, but there’s an adjoining room in the back. And the location is ideal — it’s in the downtown district along old 66, across the street from the Creek County Courthouse.
The asking price for the restaurant is $360,000. In the meantime, Al’s Route 66 Cafe will continue to operate indefinitely. If you want to check it out, it’s at 219 E. Dewey in Sapulpa (map is here). If you’re interested in buying, you can call Susan at 918-224-4190.
Oh…If only, if only….I hope someone can snap it up and keep it running!
The food is awesome but the service has gotten terrible and ridicilously slow. Such a shame…
This is a great place for families and the food is great although they had problems with speed now that they have reopened the speed issues are not a worry. The service is great and i would kill to have a place like this. God bless Al and Sue…..
