The Arbors at Route 66 is a planned mixed-use development along Foothill Boulevard (Route 66) and Grove Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
But the project is encountering resistance from residents, mostly because of traffic concerns, reports the Ontario (Calif.) Daily Bulletin.
The proposal is for 23 single-family homes, 75 townhomes and more than 12,600 square feet of office space on 10 acres. For it to go ahead, a General Plan amendment is needed to change the zoning from residential to mixed-use. It will also need an amendment on the maximum units allowed, from 231 units to 304.
“The good news and the bad news here is you’ve created a wonderful city in Rancho Cucamonga. The good news is you’ve done that. The bad news is more and more people want to live here,” said Bachmann.
The proposed site also is the Nicolson Farms strawberry field, which some people want remain.
But for those who’ve ever driven around the Los Angeles suburbs, traffic problems is no small concern. But, to their credit, the developers have done a lot of reaching out to residents, trying to allay and address their concerns.
