Stones-cold version of “Route 66”

Here’s a good-quality video clip of the Rolling Stones performing Bobby Troup’s classic, “Route 66,” during a concert in 1976.

This is the lineup that features Ron Wood on lead guitar. Nothing against Ronnie, but I’d sure like to hear previous lead guitarist Mick Taylor rip into that tune.

You can skip the chit-chat after the song. I’m not sure why the poster wasted bandwidth with it.

  1. Correction: Kieth is plays the intro riff just like he did in the original Stone’s cover version recorded in 63 or 64, long before Mick T. or Ron W. were “in the band”. Note that Wood’s right hand does not stroke his Strat during the introduction figure that starts the song. Mick Taylor is a spendid blues lead stylist explaining his short history with this group. Woddy’s longevity is understanable because (paraphrasing him) — “I try to play whatever I can to stay out of Kieth’s way”.
