The Route 66 town of Carthage, Mo., was named the state’s second-most beautiful town by readers of Rural Missouri magazine, reported the Carthage Press.
The wine-country burg of Hermann won the top spot, and Carthage beat out Ste. Genevieve for the runner-up position.
“Carthage boasts one of Missouri’s most beautiful town squares and courthouses,” the publication said. “It’s also a well-known spot on Route 66.”
The town’s convention and visitors’ bureau site has a decent overview of why it finished so high in the rankings.
