Views from Grand Canyon Skywalk

The recently opened Grand Canyon Skywalk, which resembles a giant horseshoe that juts 70 feet over the chasm, prohibits visitors from carrying cameras onto the horseshoe.

However, one person apparently sneaked a video camera onto the Skywalk and posted the footage on YouTube. You can see the canyon below through the glass walkway. By the way, visitors have to wear leather-type booties to keep from scratching the glass.

Dawn Dais of Dreaminmotion.net also posted this video after she and two other adults  traveled to Skywalk (the Skywalk portion begins about two minutes in). They complained about the steep fees, the unsightly Port-A-Potties, the ugly chain-link fences around the complex, and the rough 14-mile dirt road that leads to it. Everyone in the video said the Skywalk was a “ripoff.”

Dais’ complaints echo others I’ve heard about Skywalk. I’m stunned that the developers didn’t shore up the complex’s basic infrastructure before opening. If they don’t fix this bad situation in a hurry, word-of-mouth will induce people to stay away in droves.

  1. I really enjoyed the second video. And I’m glad they didn’t throw a handful of $20 bills into the air.

This is sad news for this potentially attractive site.

  2. This video is basically them admitting they are are not very bright!. They could have spent about a minute on internet researching this and the would have found out about all the same stuff they complained about.
Anybody who is a Las Vegas traveler or a Grand Canyon traveler could have easily found and read the negative reviews regarding the high prices and bumpy roads etc.
I am a big fan of visiting and hiking in the Grand Canyon and will probably never go to the Skywalk, but I think these people were a little harsh about the porta-pottys and lack of amenities. They Tribe has to start somewhere.
I also think it was childish of them to make fun of the threat of terrorism.
So, to summarize, being a Grand Canyon afficionado, I am not thrilled with the Skywalk and will never support it, but I think the people in the video were excessively critical of the Skywalk, especially when the could have known better.

  3. With a last name of Dias there not from the U. S. besides, that video they took off of the skywalk was taken without permission, they snuck there camera on the skywalk. That itself tells you what kind of people they are. The skywalk is better to see for youself, and not to listen to foreigners.

  4. Um, Mike, Dawn Dias is from Sacramento. Last I checked, that’s definitely in the United States. Nor did I detect a foreign accent. Watch the video and do your homework before spouting obviously stupid comments.
