After hinting at it for months, the fellow behind the “open source” Route 66 NonStop website has launched a fundraising attempt at $50,000 at Indiegogo.
Ingar Hagen, founder and CEO of the Norwegian company Mobideal AS, said his proposed website sprang from a childhood wish to travel Route 66. Such an open-source site, he says, will enable others to travel the Mother Road in cyberspace.
According to the Indiegogo campaign, Hagen envisions this:
Route66NonStop.com will be the largest source for free open source information about Route 66. This will include among other:
Non-stop videos of the entire route Thousands of pictures from the route Video interviews with people – “People along Route 66 Library” Video interviews and presentations of businesses – “Businesses along Route 66 Library” Text information Video clips Maps Historical archive
In a follow-up email, Hagen elaborated a bit on what the $50,000 (if raised) would be used for:
This will be HD non-stop videos. To insure quality we will make videos east-west and west-east, and we will probably have to make several trips. This will include 3 videos each way, (front, left and right).
We also hope to make a 3D version, but have not included this in the project as this is still not 100%
The budget for this is 50,000 and also includes several stops for interviews, photos and other activities. Our goal isto create a open source library for information about Route 66, where these non-stop videos will be the core. Hopefully this will also be a place where others will upload those timelaps videos, photos, historic documents ad so on.
Our goal is not to makeany money from this, but to start up a unique project, and in the end hopefully turn this into something managed by a foundation and “members”.
Hagen’s has a deadline of Oct. 14 to raise the money. In the meantime, he also encourages folks to upload videos and other material at the Route 66 NonStop site.
