Matt Gross, aka The Frugal Traveler, of the New York Times’ travel section ventured to Oklahoma City to dine on … Vietnamese food.
That sounds like an odd combination, but Gross points out that 20,000 Vietnamese live in OKC.
His excursion found a few Route 66 spots, including the Hospitality Inn (listed in the Route 66 Dining and Lodging Guide) and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
There also were a number of Vietnamese restaurants on various Route 66 alignments, including Pho Hoa, Golden Phoenix, and Bahn Mi Ba Le, in a building on which a giant milk bottle sits.
That’s what’s cool about Route 66 — you always find something unexpected. Remind me sometime to tell you about all the good Lebanese places in Tulsa.
Pho Hoa is probably the best in the region. We eat there about once a week. Super-fast service, super-great food. When you pay, tell them what table you were at & they’ll ring you up, splitting th etab however your want.
Bring your cash & checkbook, they don’t take any type of plastic.
I’m a Vietnamese who has been studying in the U.S for one and a half years. I have some closed friends in the college. However, sometimes I feel pissed off when they call me Asian guy. I know they do not mean to offend me; they just want to make a joke. Therefore, I have came up with my blog https://www.easianheritage.com/ as a way to express Asian lifestyle. Take a look and tell me what you think.
