Route 66 State Park near Eureka, Mo., is hosting a photo exhibit titled, “Colors of the Mother Road,” by Sally Bobbitt Simpson on July 14, with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. that day in the visitors center.
According to the news release:
Simpson’s fascination with Route 66 began four years ago while photographing local motel signs along Route 66. Wanting to expand from only motel sign images, she took a road trip to Miami, Okla. Since then, she has traveled sections of Route 66 from St. Louis to Chicago, as well as sections within Albuquerque, N.M. The majority of this exhibit consists of color photographic images using 35mm film. Simpson believes in capturing the richness of the natural surroundings with little or no use of lens filters or digital alterations.
It sounds fascinating. Route 66 State Park, by the way, is the former site of Times Beach, Mo., a Route 66 town that was evacuated decades ago because of dioxin contamination.
