In the Sandia Mountains east of Albuquerque, a number of recent accidents have tied up traffic on Interstate 40 for hours.
According to KOAT, state Rep. Kathy McCoy wants something done about it:
McCoy is working with the New Mexico Department of Transportation and law enforcement officials to get the situation and the traffic cleared up quickly. One idea to ease the problem is to partner with a radio station so that commuters can get the information before they enter into the canyon area along I-40.
McCoy also wants message boards indicating traffic tie-ups to be used more often with the messages flashing as far back as 50 miles in both directions. She would also like to see Route 66 widened. (my emphasis)
Hmmm. What do you think?
