On Friday, the Old Riverton Store along old Route 66 in Riverton, Kansas, marked its 90th anniversary of business.
Yes, the store actually predates Route 66 by about 18 months.
The newest owner, Scott Nelson, who’s worked there since he was a teenager many years ago, pledges to keep its old-fashioned feel the same.
KODE-TV had this report:
If you want to see a bunch of photos from the 90th-anniversary celebration and many other images from the olden days, surf over to the Old Riverton Store’s Facebook page.
Leo Williams opened the store there March 20, 1925. Joe and Isabell Eisler of Allen, Texas, bought the business in 1973 and renamed it Eisler Bros. Nelson bought the store in 2011.
Because of its great and well-preserved history, one of the best-stocked collections of Route 66 memorabilia and its hand-crafted sandwiches, it remains one of the must-stops of the Mother Road.
Get your camera ready. Well worth the visit.
