The directors of Ed Galloway’s Totem Pole Park near Foyil, Oklahoma, have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help restore the top half of the main, 90-foot-tall totem pole.
According to KJRH-TV in Tulsa, the top half of the big totem pole is starting to chip. If enough money is raised, top-quality paint will be used that should last 45 to 50 years.
Here’s the Kickstarter campaign:
Galloway built the main totem pole between 1937 and 1948. The park fell into disrepair after Galloway’s death in 1961 until the Rogers County Historical Society acquired it in 1989. The park has undergone several renovations since then. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Totem Pole Park isn’t on Route 66, but remains a common side trip for Mother Road travelers.
