Back to drawing board for Wishing Well site

The imminent demolition of the Wishing Well Motel in Countryside, Ill., continues, but plans for the property remain up in the air after Mayor Robert Conrad rejected a retail and townhouse proposal, reports Chicago Suburban News.

“We just felt that it was a little too dense there,” Conrad said. “It’s not that anyone has a problem with any of the projects going on — it’s pretty fortunate that all of these developments are in the works — but with all of this density with the properties there, I don’t want — and they don’t want — a property that’s not going to sell.” […]

Conrad said he has spoken with the Vidas’s about coming up with a different plan for the lot.

“I sat down and spoke with the two brothers who own the property and would like them to rethink how they’re going to develop that,” Conrad said. “I think we’re going to have a nice product. The city has had a real opportunity with these empty parcels and the developers are ready to go and I’m not expecting … a problem with that. We’re going back to the drawing board.”

The Wishing Well Motel was closed after the death of its owner. Then it was decided to demolish it when a fire broke out in one of its units and rampant break-ins. More about the Wishing Well’s history can be read here.
