Vickie Ashcraft of the Enchanted Trails RV Park and Trading Post in west Albuquerque wants help in creating what she hopes would be a new Route 66 attraction — an 18-foot-tall tree made entirely of hubcaps.
You might think the hubcap tree was inspired by the more modestly sized Christmas one at Cars Land at Disneyland Resort in California. But that’s not the case, she told KRQE-TV in Albuquerque
But she’s ready to give her tourists something else, a piece of her home town in Maine.
“There’s this great old hot rod shop and they have this hubcap tree out there,” said Ashcroft.
She hopes she can replicate the tree and it will captivate travelers, the same way Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo is famous for photo ops along Route 66.
Here’s a photo of the hubcap tree, at Champion Auto Sales in Arundel, Maine:
The catch is Ashcraft needs about 200 hubcaps to start the job. Only metal ones will do the job, as she says they’ll be welded together to create the tree.
If you’ve got an old metal hubcap or two you’re willing to give to the cause, ship it to Enchanted Trails RV Park, 14305 Central NW, Albuquerque, NM 87121. Those traveling through the area also can drop them off at the RV park.

I’m all for it. Go Vickie! Go taller even, ~25′.
