Here’s something special. Ray Benson, frontman for the western-swing outfit Asleep At the Wheel, sings “Route 66” with the Time Jumpers during a recent gig in Nashville.
In case you didn’t know, the Time Jumpers is a group of Nashville studio musicians who started playing classic country, swing, jazz and pop songs together nearly 20 years ago. They quickly became one of the hottest tickets in town, with even famous music artists such as Vince Gill sitting in and then becoming a regular.
It seems proper Benson would sing Bobby Troup’s “Route 66” with the Time Jumpers. He’s long said it’s his favorite song, and Asleep At the Wheel has embarked on a couple of Route 66 tours during its long tenure.
