Book review: “Route 66 Postcard Coloring Book”

Route 66 Postcard Coloring Book cover

Folks may think the new “Route 66 Postcard Coloring Book,” published by the folks at the Legends of America website, is tailor-made for children and nobody else.

However, coloring books for adults became a craze in the last few years. According to a report earlier this year by CNN, therapists and researchers touted the mental-health benefits of adults coloring pages for more than a decade. It’s even being suggested as an alternative to meditation. Several coloring books became best-sellers.

The “Route 66 Postcard Coloring Book” attempts to thread this marketing needle by touting it for children and adults. The back cover — which shows samples of the illustrations inside — says, “Color … Learn … Relax.”

Here’s a new Legends of America video touting the book:

The “Route 66 Postcard Coloring Book” contains 20 postcards perforated near the binding so they can be torn out easily. The other side of each card-stock postcard comes with a stamp-placement box, a description of the illustration and space for handwritten notes and mailing addresses.

Here’s a sample of one of the pages:
