Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill performed an intimate concert in Oklahoma City on Thursday night, partly as a fundraiser to renovate the auditorium for the city’s public schools and partly to receive the 2007 Oklahoman of the Year Award from Oklahoma Today magazine.
Here’s the interesting item about the show, straight from Gill’s Web site (my emphasis in bold):
The audience cheered as Gill performed some of his greatest hits, including “When I Call Your Name,” “I Never Knew Lonely,” and “Oklahoma Borderline,” as well as a new song about Route 66 set on Oklahoma City’s 39th Expressway stretch of the Mother Road.
Gill already has a notable musical connection to Route 66, as his video for the No. 1 single “Never Knew Lonely” was shot at the historic Vega Motel in Vega, Texas. So a new song by such a talented musician that takes place on the Mother Road is an exciting prospect indeed.
Gill hasn’t had a new album out since the four-disc “These Days” in 2006. There’s nothing on his Web site that indicates an impending release in 2008. However, I sent an e-mail to his publicist, and I hope to get details about Gill’s “Route 66” song and more.
UPDATE: Gill’s publicist informs me that the title of the song is “Lucky Diamond Motel,” and that it probably will be on his next album.
anything vince sings is a sure hit!!
