Starting today, visitors to Tulsa International Airport will receive a new recorded greeting from none other than best-selling Route 66 author, Radiator Springs sheriff and longtime Tulsa resident Michael Wallis.
And, yes, Wallis touts Route 66 as part of the greeting.
You can listen here:
Newly elected Tulsa mayor G.T. Bynum made the announcement on his Facebook account Friday:
One of the most common and unexpected requests I’ve had from people since the election is to change the recorded greeting at Tulsa International Airport. Excited to announce we will have a new one starting Monday – and it won’t be me! The great Tulsa historian, writer, speaker, actor, and all-around terribly cool Michael Wallis thankfully agreed to do it.
With Wallis’ big baritone voice, it makes one wonder why it hadn’t been done a long time ago. But, to his credit, Bynum heard from constituents and acted.

And no tractor tipping!
Michael sounds great!!! His message really makes you want to explore Tulsa – especially on Route 66!!
So glad to hear the new announcement!
Wonderful! What a great way for travelers to get a taste for what Tulsa has to offer.
That’s pretty cool! What a great idea to welcome people to Tulsa. Now to add some more signs on 66…..
Michael, I really like it. It is as fine as frogs’ hair.
