Remember Michelle Thompson, the woman who rode a bicycle from Chicago to L.A. to raise awareness about oral cancer and raise funds for her stricken brother? Alas, her brother died from complications of his illness not long after that. The Joplin Globe reports that Joplin’s downtown historical district has been nominated by the State of Missouri to the National Register of Historic Places. Route 66 runs through the heart of that area.
