The Morris (Ill.) Daily Herald has the story about Thomas Kowaczek and Jennifer O’Dowd, who got married Sunday on Route 66 at the old Odell Station in Odell, Ill.
“He said he wanted to get married in Odell, at the Route 66 gas station,” O’Dowd said. “I just looked at him and said, ‘No, really, where do you want to get married?’ I was thinking Starved Rock.”
She said it only took her a couple of minutes to realize he wasn’t joking.
Not ready to give up her dream of a Starved Rock wedding, she called to check availability and pricing, only to find out that there was no way to meet the minimum requirements for cost and still have the small wedding of which she dreamed.
So she jumped on board with her fiance to plan a Route 66 wedding.
“I just wanted to have the wedding at this gas station,” said Kowaczek. “I don’t know why, but it just seemed right.
The couple also said their vows at the old Gardner jail off 66 in Gardner, Ill.
UPDATE 6/27/08: Here’s another story about the wedding from the Joliet Herald News.
