Attendance at Trailnet‘s annual birthday party for St. Louis’ Old Chain of Rocks Bridge (it turned 79) a week ago Sunday was down from the usual because of the threat of stormy weather, reported the Granite City (Ill.) Press-Record.
It also rained during part of the events that morning, and flooding from a swollen Mississippi River blocked a few trails away from the bridge.
The birthday event had 355 people attend, down from the 600 to 800 riders that usually take part in the event. Weilbacher said the drop in the number of bike riders can be attributed to Sunday’s threatening weather. She also said that the rain affected those who did attend the celebration.
We were there later that morning, after the rain. With the live music, free Ted Drewes Frozen Custard and free cake, it appeared everyone was having a swell time.
The Old Chain of Rocks Bridge is hosting the St. Louis Route 66 Festival on Oct. 4.
