This week, Neal Group Construction will be honored by Missouri Preservation for its work in helping preserve dozens of buildings in downtown Joplin.
According to the Joplin Globe, the company will receive the McReynolds Award for “significant achievement in the field of historic preservation” at Missouri Preservation‘s Statewide Preservation Honor Awards on Thursday.
Among the buildings Neal Group has preserved include:
- Gryphon Building at 422 S. Main St., occupied by The Runaround fitness firm
- Christman Building, 501 S. Main St.
- Grant Building, 526 S. Main St., occupied Heartland Technology Solutions
- Blue Moon Market, 512 S. Main St., occupied by Cell Phone Medics
- Empire Block Building, 400 block of South Main Street, which houses a residential project
- Hurlbut Mortuary and Chapel building at 212 S. Joplin Ave., available for office or retail
All are on or near the Route 66 corridor in Joplin.
Jeff Neal estimated his company has been involved in up to 100 projects — large and small — in Joplin’s downtown. He told the newspaper:
“You see what’s happened on Main Street, especially in those 10 blocks (from 1st to 10th), and we never planned on that being our role. But it is something that’s fun to walk down and say ‘Yeah, we were part of that, part of that, part of that.’”
