The Motel Safari in Tucumcari, N.M., has added another mural image, courtesy of local artist Doug Quarles. It’s a 1953 Flxible Clipper bus.

On another note, we just had our first celebrity guest check-in! No, it wasn’t Sir Paul!!! During the annual Rattler Reunion weekend, a week ago, we had country singer sensation Rick Trevino nd his posse stay with us while performing a concert in town. They had a great time at the Motel Safari, and said they would return again soon. I happened to be out of town last week, for a family reunion, so I completely missed out on Sir Paul’s arrival!
Talley said more mural images on the motel will be added in the spring.
- Dawn Welch of the Rock Cafe in Stroud, Okla., reports on her blog that she has hired an architect, structural engineer and contractor to rebuild the historic Route 66 restaurant — 88 days after it was gutted by a fire. “The team feels very strongly about getting the building permanently stablized and this happens by constucting the inside walls with the same wooden framing and attaching that with metal anchors to the original rock facade. This construction should begin within the next week and half,” Welch wrote.

- Mike Gassman, champion of the World’s Largest Catsup Bottle in Collinsville, Ill., sent along a link to dozens of photos shot during the World’s Largest Catsup Bottle Festival in mid-July.
- Route 66 expert Mark Potter sent this image of a 1955 Chevy pickup transformed into Tow Mater from the movie “Cars.” This was during the Summer’s Last Blast weekend in Potter’s home base of Vernon, Texas.
