New Oklahoma Route 66 Guide published by state tourism bureau

The Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department announced this week it has published a new, 56-page Oklahoma Route 66 Guide.

From the news release:

The Oklahoma Route 66 Guide highlights more than 120 Mother Road attractions throughout the state, including museums, historical sites, diners and much more. It also features festivals to catch along the route and potential side journeys for travelers who want to indulge in more Sooner State tourism while on their Route 66 vacation.

The guide is divided into eastern, western and central sections. Attractions are featured in order from east to west, which is the way most travelers choose to drive Route 66. […]

Tourism is Oklahoma’s third-largest industry, the news release stated.

“Route 66 is such a key piece of our tourism economy,” said Dick Dutton, executive director of the department. “Thousands of tourists visit the state each year to drive the highway. They stop in our cities and towns, bringing in millions of dollars and helping create jobs in both urban and rural areas.”
