A local restaurateur recently purchased Kix on 66, a breakfast-and-lunch restaurant in Tucumcari, New Mexico, that’s found favor with both Route 66 travelers and locals.
Todd Duplantis, owner of Cornerstone First Edition Pizza and Subs down the road from Kix, closed on the deal last week with Yvette Peacock and Yvonne Braziel, who’d owned the eatery for 15 years. The sisters also have owned the landmark Del’s Restaurant in Tucumcari for the last 24 years.

Duplantis, noting Kix is his favorite place to eat breakfast, said he has no plans for major changes on Kix’s menu or staffing, nor for Cornerstone, which serves lunch and dinner.
Because of their differing schedules and cuisines, Cornerstone and Kix on 66 shouldn’t cannibalize business much from each other.
Peacock originally asked for $850,000 for Del’s and $350,000 for Kix. The sale price for Kix wasn’t disclosed.
Peacock, who announced Del’s also was on the market about a year ago, said she and her sister would consider selling if the right offer came along. However, because they are managing one restaurant instead of two, the urgency to sell Del’s isn’t as great, and they’re happy to keep operating it as-is for the time being. The sisters had wanted to retire or slow down.
Duplantis said he’d consider making an offer for Del’s in the future, but not for a while.
Kix originally was a Denny’s restaurant built during the mid-1960s. When Denny’s moved to Mountain Road near Interstate 40, Peacock and Braziel repurposed it into Kix on 66.
The sisters also once owned Rockin’ Y’s Roadhouse on the east side of Tucumcari on Route 66 and U.S. 54. A fire destroyed it in 2015, and it wasn’t rebuilt.
