The neon sign for the De Anza Motor Lodge in Albuquerque will be relighted in a ceremony Sunday evening.
The Route 66 motel at 4301 Central Ave., most of which has been converted into higher-end apartments, announced on Instagram and other social media the relighting will occur at 5 p.m. Sunday. De Anza also is slated to be a motel for overnight travelers, as well.
The sign was taken down for a few months for restoration, then reinstalled.

Anthea at Nob Hill LLC broke ground on the long-awaited redevelopment of the property in late 2017. The city had eyed the resurrection of De Anza for 10 to 15 years, including two other developers who bowed out of the project because of varying issues.
Zuni trader and Indian art collector Charles G. Wallace and motor court operator S.D. Hambaugh built De Anza in 1939. The motel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It closed during the 1990s.
