The Lincoln (Ill.) Courier has a preview on a fundraiser Saturday for the continuing restoration of The Mill in Lincoln. There will be a classic car show, food and a dance.
Railsplitter Antique Auto Club has teamed up again with the Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County to present the second annual car show at The Mill, which will have open registration.
Vehicle registration is $3, which will go directly to The Mill restoration. The show will last from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic landmark at 738 S. Washington St.
Visitors will be able to tour The Mill restoration and partake of barbeque sandwiches served with baked beans, chips and a soda from Hallie’s Restaurant in Lincoln. Vintage Daze, a local rock ’n’ roll band, will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. A 50/50 drawing will also be held.
It’s hard to believe, but it was two years ago this month that The Mill was slated for demolition because it was in such deplorable condition. Thanks to preservationists, look at it now.
They have made amazing progress with this place. I’m thrilled to see it.
It seems like the community is really rallying around the work being done. All they needed was a catalyst.
